Through the efforts of the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Technology, in cooperation with the Vice-Chancellery for Development and Support, a BET (Belsorp Mini X) surface area and porosity analyzer, manufactured in Japan, was purchased and installed at Malayer University's Central Laboratory in November 2025 (Aban 1404).
A training workshop was held for faculty members from the Materials, Physics, and Environment departments, as well as graduate students in these fields, to teach the operation of the device. This precision Japanese-made instrument measures specific surface area, pore size distribution, and pore volume of various materials, and features four independent ports.
Key applications of this device include:
• Nanotechnology: measuring the surface area of metal nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanofibers, nanocatalysts, and nanoadsorbents for characterizing nanostructures.
• Chemistry and catalysts: studying surface-active materials, chemical adsorption, and catalysts for industrial reactions.
• Materials engineering: studying the surface properties of materials such as concrete, ceramics, polymers, composites, and coatings to assess quality and porosity.
• Pharmaceuticals and medicine: analyzing drug dissolution, pharmaceutical substances, and additives to improve absorption and shelf life.
• Food industry: moisture retention, product shelf life, and absorbent materials.
• Environment: filtration and activated carbon.
• Other fields: studying material properties used in electrochemical energy storage devices (batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells), cosmetic and hygiene products, adsorbents, and polymeric materials, including textile fibers and various rubber and plastic materials.
We inform students, professors, and researchers at universities, research institutes, and industrial centers that Malayer University's Central Laboratory is ready to provide services and conduct various tests including XRD, FTIR, BET, HPLC, and atomic absorption.
